How have your feelings about God changed over time?
Patchett's views on God and Catholicism have evolved. While still identifying as Catholic, she acknowledges being appalled by aspects of the religion, separating her faith from the institution. She believes in God but finds it impossible to define.
What's a place that shaped you as much as any person did?
Ann Patchett's childhood on a farm in Ashland City, Tennessee, significantly shaped her. The isolated life, filled with animals and nature, fostered her introspective nature and provided a foundation for her writing.
What's an expression of love you're trying to get better at?
Patchett strives for complete acceptance, mirroring her husband's unwavering love. She acknowledges her past tendency to fix problems and is actively working on simply accepting and loving others for who they are.
